Program (9 hours)

In the middle of the green rolling hills, there is a village called Gradiček.
Close by one of the main Slovenian rivers, Krka River, springs from the depths of the karst underground.
We have roughly a half-hour stop in the quaint little hamlet and the surroundings of the source.

We head southeast, deeper into the Dolenjska region.
In Zuzemberk we visit the remains of the old castle with a tormented history, beginning back in the 10th century.
The castle is perched upon the rock above the Krka River, it dominates a small village below.
The area is known also for rafting and other water sports.
We can just walk down from the castle to the river and simply enjoy the soothing water flow.

Brezice is a border town near Croatia with very specific baroque heritage.
Nearby Terme Catez is one of the most known thermal spa centers in the wider region.
We stop here for a walking tour.
Optionally, you can visit the Castle of Brežice.
It boasts a huge painted baroque concert hall, a unique example of the Baroque interior in Slovenia.
For the information about the castle and admission fee click here.

Repnice underground cellars are dug into the quartz sand and for the purpose of storing the goods.
In this ambient, you can enjoy the underground snack with a tasting of the wine, macerated in these specific underground conditions.
A drive to Podsreda Castle is an option if you are not a wine- or underground lover.

This was our second trip with Bart, he was exactly on time for our pickup in Rijeka.
He helped us decide on the trip destinations and we had another wonderful day seeing the must see tourist spots and then the real Croatia in the small hilltop villages! He took us to a great cafe for our morning coffee and a fantastic local restaurant for truffles and pasta etc. for lunch!
Bart gave lots of insight into Croatia its history and the way they live! We loved the day!

Bart offers an amazing one or two day tour which was perfect for me due to my short stay. It felt like I had my own private tour guide!
Due to the fact that he wasn't booked solid the two days we were able to personalize my trip and skipped a place or two and added on more time at others.
The tour included many special touches including several locally produced wines and liquors, as well as delicious food. He offers a "hop on hop off" concept which was confusing at first. You do not hop on or off during the tour unless you plan on staying at a place for a few days. Basically it is a great alternative to renting a car. I meet a couple from England who was doing that and they loved the service. So whether you are just doing a "straight through" tour of Slovenia for a day or two, or want to plan a week trip and get some great recommendations on where to stay, this is a good service to use.
Bart is very knowledgeable, loves Slovenia, and works hard to provide unique and off the beaten track stops. Slovenia is an absolutely gorgeous country with many different terrains to see I loved the wine region and the Adriatic sea especially.

By email exchange from Australia with Jernej, who was to be our guide and driver, we put together a private multi day custom tour of eastern Slovenia.
Collecting us (2 people) from our hotel in Zagreb we were driven to Ljubljana , then to Lake Bled via Vintgar Gorge. Our tour took in the Vrsic mountain pass, Soca River, Brda wine region ( staying in Smarto), Kobarid War Museum, Predjama Castle, Skocjan Caves Lipica Stud Farm ( staying in Piran) and finally transferring to Rovinj via Istrian hill towns.
In all our travels, Jernej selected routes that showcased the wonderful landscapes and small villages in Slovenia. Most of the roads were through the rural farming areas with little road traffic. This enhanced our experience and appreciation of Slovenia.
Jernej, with his many connections gave us some wonderful insights into everday life in Slovenia that a tourist is rarely afforded. His extensive knowledge and experience stimulated many interesting discussions. In addition we were treated to an improptu lunch and wine tasting in the wonderful Jelenic Winery, another lunch and farm tour with one of his cousins (Viljem) and his family, and even a brief visit to his mother's 80th birthday party. And we can't help but mention our off road forest experience. This was a real bonus!
The multi day tour arrangements went seamlessly .Both the transport and accommodation were excellent. The tour was very well organized and efficient.
Jernej's personal approach was very engaging and stimulating throughout our tour exhibiting his extensive knowledge and experience of Slovenia and his great sense of humor.
For us this delivered a wonderful and memorable experience of Slovenia.
We would highly recommend this company led by the remarkable manager Jernej Zakelj.

Many, many thanks to Jernej for the fantastic tour yesterday.
We arranged for a private tour, and we hoped to see my grandparents’ hometowns.
No only did Jernej find the hometowns, he found their baptismal records, my grandpa’s twin brother’s grave, and even some long lost cousins that I’ve heard about but never met! We not only met them, but had dinner with them, and their families!
Again, thank you, Jernej! Your went over and above our expectations.
